Whats New With Google – August Update

Google Speed Update Released

Google has now officially made Page Speed a ranking factor within mobile search results. If your site is slow or not mobile responsive, then you will need to make this a priority if you want to retain visibility in mobile organic search results. Google actually wants all pages to download in 200 ms! That is super fast and not many sites will achieve that due to scripts and plugins developers often use to provide added functionality and to improve usability and engagement, so we advise you aim for under 2 seconds. Use the Google page speed insights tool to check the speed of your web pages. If they are slow then get in touch and we will see if we can apply speed optimisation.

Google Marketing Platform launches

The Google Marketing Platform was launched in July to provide a single solution for planning, measuring and optimising your digital marketing presence using Google products. You may have noticed when you login to Google Analytics you are now taken to the Google Marketing Platform home page. This powerful marketing platform is totally free to use and with products such as Analytics, Google Surveys, Google Trends, Google Correlate and Google Shopping Trends, you can gather a great deal of valuable insight on search trends for your products and services and learn more about your target audience and what they are searching on.

Google Adwords rebrands to Google Ads

Google have been making a lot of changes to the Adwords platform over the last year. Earlier in the year the new interface was launched. Frustratingly it still doesn’t allow PDF Report download, so Whizz is still working with the new and old platform so we can continue to provide clients with PDF performance reports each month.

The rebranding from Adwords to Ads was rolled out in July to represent all the different campaign types across Search, Display, Video and App, helping businesses to connect with more people across more platforms.

Migrate to an HTTPS server and comply with GDPR

It is important for all UK website owners to comply with GDPR legislation, and this means updating your Privacy Policy, Website User Policy and adding an Acceptable Use Policy if you don’t already have one. You should also include an opt-in consent tick box on all data forms with a link to your Privacy Policy, and ideally migrate your site to HTTPS to provide added data security for your web users. If you would like further advice on how to achieve this to comply with GDPR, please give us a call.
